Tranny on its way out?

So I was coming back home from taking my gf home, and as I put the truck in to tow/haul to start slowing down for the stop sign, I noticed that it was not infact slowing me down. I got to the stop sign and went to leave, still in tow/haul and it was like I was in neutral. the RPM's redlined and I was not moving, took it out of tow/haul and it jumped forward and then was fine. tryed using tow/haul to see if it would do it again going down the road and the RPM's spike way up and no slowing down, just rolling in neutral.

I got to my road and the first small hill, the truck between downshifting and this was not in tow/haul, went in to what seems like neutral, then jumps in to gear then back to neutral, then to gear.

I then put it in 3rd got up the next hill and on to the flat by my house, and after slowing down a bit, I put it to second and nothing, just kept rolling then all of a sudden it slamms in to gear.

Im leaning towards a problem with my torque converter... I may be off in left feild.

also a few days ago, I was on the hwy, doing 145 km/h for around 10 minutes. when I got to where we were going and stopped and got out, there was a big puddle of ATF on the ground.

but it stopped leaking that night minutes later.

also since I bought the truck, it has always clunked when either going from Park to Drive, or Drive to reverse or reverse to drive. and there is some hesitation when selecting a gear. Im guessing thats the TC slipping?

Either way, I wont be driving my truck now intill its fixed.

and there is most deffenitly a problem.

well I took it in to the tranny shop, while they had it on the computer the only codes that came up were Ignition codes.

the tech explained it to me that the Ignition switch had alot to do with the tranny as well, being as that is where the power the tranny computer had to come from, if there was a problem with the ignition switch that either lost power time to time, that would be the reason that my tranny was acting up. they cleared the codes and gave it back to me, and said if it did it again to bring it in right away and they would pull the codes up and if it was forsure the ignition codes then they would replace my ignition switch.

the ignition switch is only 54.95 and a 1 1/2 hours labour. So its alot cheaper then a new transmission.

and since I got it back last night it hasnt acted up yet. its been running fine.

How many miles on your truck and have you had the trans serviced? The solenoids can get cranky if they start to get trash in them. Recommended flush interval is 30K, 60K change, etc. Mercon SP ONLY on the torqshift--nothing else works on the stock trans.

Mine did the same thing and now it is in the tranny shop. The snap ring on the planetary gears broke causing me to replace the whole tranny. I got a new transmission from ford for $2550 with a 36 month 75,000 mi. warraty. It came with a huge cooler too. My F550 has 157000 mi.

Transmission problem or ignition switch ?

I have a 2004 6.0 L and evry now and then the tranny has a problem on the 3 to 4 shift. Tech said my clutch packs are bad. I thought I had a stick or faulty selinoid. Now I am thinking some how I am losing electrical power to the trany. it acts the same way as when you rehook up battery's and the trany needs to relearn. If I have my Edge Juice plugged in whenthe electrical power happens it make the tranny rev up and BANG hard into gear. After a few of these then the tow haul will flash. Take it the dealer and they flash out the code ,but hav never told what the error code was. Now my chip is out and the trany was good for about 4 days and is acting up again. It is acting like I have had the battery's disconected again. slow to go into gear from Park, and. slow soft shift from 3 to 4. but after driving for 20 30 miles every thing is back to normal. When ever it acts up it will be right after starting it, never during a trip or after truck has been in use for a period of time, only happens after just starting the truck and the first time i take off.

Has anyone else exsperienced this sort of thing? could it be the ignition switch ? or do I really have a tranny problem ?? any input from you guys out there would be appriciated. Thanks, Jerry
