The IAT stands for Intake Air Temperature, and that's what it reads. The PCM calculates the volume of fuel needed by calculating the volume of air the engine is consuming using the IAT as well as the Barametric pressure sensor and a host of others. It is located in the intake on the drivers side runner near the plug for #2 injector. Kind of behind the fuel filter. Mine was pluged up with carbon when I took it out. This pic is from a magazine I just read.

I was also curious about cleaning the IAT sensor. Is there a safe way to clean it without messing it up, or is it better to just replace it?

Cool

I CLEANED SENSOR YESTERDAY. CLEANED IT FIRST WITH SOLVENT, IT DIDN'T CLEAN IT ALL, SO I HIT IT LIGHTLY WITH A GLASSBEADER. LOOKED NEW, BLEW IT OFF WITH AIRHOSE GOOD, PUT IT BACK IN. WORKS FINE.

This is the location to install the Boss Performance chip. Don't know how it works exactly but it did give my truck a boost in power before I decided to do it right. Flea bay product... well worth $30 bones

just bought a 2005 f250 with airaid cold air intake, in the process of doing an oil change and good look over of the truck i noticed that the Intake Ait Temp sensor was not installed in the intake tube, it was just tie wraped under the hood and a blank plate was covering the place where the sensor should be. Is this a problem should i take the blank plate off and install the sensor or leave it as is
