Engine replacement

I have a 04 6.0 with 43,000mi. The dealer said I might have a hole in the #3 piston or a leaking o ring. They have to pull the cylinder head. They put a new injector in but it did not help. It has low compression at cranking speed. At higher rpms the pressure builds up and seems to run ok. But the intercooler is leaking air and not building enough boost. The egr valve checked bad so they replaced it. It did not help. They have to pull the cab in order do pulled the head. My question is. Will I be wasting money to find out the cylinder is shot and will have to replace the engine. I don't want to through good money into bad. I was told a new engine is 13-14K

What is the truck doing that prompted you to take it to the dealer to begin with?

Idle was rough. The turbo was no kicking in at times.

with that many miles, just get it rebuilt if need be. i think it would be worth it, but have them check anyways. if they already have the cab up, all they have to do next is pull the motor. i would have them check comp again, maybe somewhere else for a second opinion. little miles to have it blow a hole unless something broke.
