Need help

I am a newbe to the forum and machanically challenged. I have an 03 Excursion with a 6.0 V8 diesel. I was told by the mechanic in the Ford shop that I need a new engine since parts of a fuelinjector had entered into the engine. The whole thing started when the engine started to blow smoke to the point that I could not see behind the vehicle. I stopped immediately and got towed to a Ford mechanic. I guess I need a new engine????? Are there rebuilt engines that are OK? I have 106000 miles so I contacted Ford to see if they would help since it is close to 100K, the answer was "No we really don't care about your problems".
