Water in Fuel Light on and loss of power?

While driving the water in fuel light comes on, usually for only a moment and at the same time ther is a loss of power, almost as if you take your foot off the accelerator. It happens infrequently but when it does it is usually in the mornings when it is cool. Only once did it happen after the motor was warm, operating temperatures in the normal range on the gauges and on the highway doing about 60. Same problem happened during the winter mornings when temperatures were in the teens or lower and I let it warm for only 15-20 minutes. Now it is spring, morning temps are around 45-50 and it still happens on occassion. If anyone has had similar or know what the problem may be, your help in diagnosing is appreciated.

Might seem like a stupid question, but when was the last time the fuel filters were changed? Have you ever drained the fuel/water separator?
