HELP!!! MY PSD IS SICK!

Hey Everyone, I am new here and I know there are many posts touching on the symptoms my truck has, but I still can't boil it down.

I have an'04 F250 6.0 PSD with 85,000 miles. Love this truck to death, but I'm at my wits end. The truck is all stock with the exception of a K&N cold air intake. About a year ago ( 55,000 miles ) the EGR and cooler were replaced and the FICM reprogrammed. Since then it has been fine. About two months ago i realized I was using coolant again. Long story short, it was "puking" out the degass bottle, still runing perfect except for lack of heat in cab at a stop light.

Two days ago, I noticed the truck was pushing a lot of black smoke, but seemed to run "stronger" than ever before. The next day I drove it to work and had the same condition. That afternoon when I left work I noticed the truck was now running real rough. I thought maybe I had run out of fuel because it only showed * miles to empty, so I filled up. Still the same. All the way home smoking like a freight train with and more than about 25% throttle. I got home and shut the truck off. Re-started about an hour later and I had NO POWER/NO THROTTLE RESPONSE at all. I'm thinking the cooler is bad again, but I can't be sure.

P.S. I hooked my techstream OBDII scanner to it and there were no codes. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I'd say you're right. Delete the egr for good. Maybe somebody else will chime in, but an egr malfunction causes all the symptoms you're describing.

Thanks for re-assuring me. I'm and outboard tech, and I can pretty much fix anything (that runs on gas), but when it comes to diesel I'm lost.

Well, i'm elbow deep in it right now. About to take the manifold off. Can't wait to delete that POS so I never have to do this again. Just hope it's the only problem and not just one of a slew that could possibly be!!!

OK... so I've decided to make my own EGR delete. Two hours in the garage and it's almost done. If I'd've know it was gonna be this easy I would have done it a lot sooner. Not as pretty as the pre-made ones, but functional. And hey, you know what, you can't even see it when the engine is back together anyway.

So, got my truck back together last night and still puking out the degas bottle. Obviosly the cooler has been eliminated at this point, so it must be HG. But would that make it so that there is little to no power? Plus there is no steam or water coming out the exhaust. Anybody feel free to chime in here. I've somewhat familiarized myself with the motor now and feel confident ripping her apart, but could somebody please point me in the right direction. I'm going to check the injectors this morning. What do I need to and how do I check fuel pressure and high pressure oil?

Sounds like you have a real puzzle on your hands. Possibly more then one problem. "No heat at idle".. have you replaced the t-stat? "Smokes like a freight train" could be the lack of boost from the turbo. But your last post has me thinking that the icp sensor could be giving you problems. If the FICM is getting bad readings, there's no telling what issues it may be causing. Any Ford techs online that may have seen this before?

You need head gaskets The 6.0 is notorious for them going bad.)
We just had one at work with the same problem, puking out the bottle and no heat, & low power. It took 8 injectors, head gaskets, EGR cooler, & turbo.
