I'm curious, how was the truck being driven before the white smoke? Had it been puking, over heating, throwing codes? It sounds like the EGR cooler but I'm curious as to how hard it was being driven and what 'signs' it may have been showing that the cooler was about to go. Thanks

6.0 blowing white smoke
Well my 17 year old was driving it, why do you ask how hard was it being drivin? we had alot of rain that day i don't know if he took it into some deep water or what the truck is a lifted 4x4.My sons ready to be strung up for screwing up my truck,he said it got hot 1/2 way between 3/4 and max on temp gauge,he smelled coolant and saw puffs of white smoke, i just went out there started it no white smoke until it gets hot and then it pukes black crap out of muffler.

You may have answered my question. The factory temp gauge will read about 'half way' from about 150f to up to 200+. If it jumped up from there, it dif got hot. In the mud... it's all up to the engine fan for cooling since you aren't going 60+mph. I'd guess at this point that the high power demands in the mud along with the lack of air flow probably let temps shoot way up. That would explain the puking. (smell of coolant). Metal expands as it heats up, so it's possible that the EGR cooler is leaking more as it warms up. I'd suggest removing the EGR valve for an inspection. Be looking for coolant and or a very moist soot. I nose check of the valve may also reveal a coolant odor if thats the problem. Good luck and keep us posted.
