6.0 Starting and Running Problems

Hey guys first post.
I have a 2004 F-250SD, Auto Trans that has been giving me trouble.
First a few months ago I was sitting at a light and it died on me. It took a few cranks and then started and ran fine.
A few weeks later when I started it in the morning it started fine but, when I pushed on the accelerator nothing happened. I turned the engine off, waited a minute and it restarted and ran fine.
Now every now and then it runs rough and sometimes dies and sometimes clears up.
This morning it ran fine and then I parked it for about an hour and when I tried to start it, it would run rough and then die. I let it sit for a few hours and then it started right up no problem.
The history on this truck is it's totally stock the only problem it had was the EGR was replaced once and then the dealer just cleaned it the next time.
The tech told me if I took the truck out on the freeway and got on it every now and then it the EGR wouldn't load up.
Also the cold air hose blew off and I replaced it.
Other than that it runs strong.
What is the most likely culprit?

Thanks Clay. I have to buy an OBDII scanner. What type would you get on a low budget?

Find a cheap superchips tuner...thats what i use. If you know anyone who has one, you can use it.
I have an SCT and it won't read any codes ...although they advertise that it will.

The guys on the bombers site said a Mac ET150 would do very well for under $200. Ever hear anything about them?

the mac guy brought one around. i tried it on a 6.0 in the shop and i couldn't make it work

or go to Autozone and they will scan it for free.
