How dirty is your EGR?

Here is a before and after pic of a 2006 6.0l EGR with less than 20,000 miles. From the picture it would appear that babying the engine is not a great strategy for EGR survival. EGR and cooler are being permanently removed and the intake will be tig welded shut. In any case, the engine is in great condition (can't say the same for the truck; it was a write-off) and is destined to go in my project truck.
