Turbo sounds different. Black smoke from exhaust

A while back my turbo started sounding different under acceleration. Instead of the typical whine it sounds more like a vacuum cleaner. I've also noticed that when I'm running about 60mph and accelerate hard I get a fair amount of black smoke from the tailpipe until the tranny downshifts and the rpm's spin up.

I'm running a tune from tdp and have never had black smoke until the turbo started sounding different. Also I'm not getting any codes. Boots pressures don't seem unusually high or low either.

Any ideas?
