Unhappy Truck won't build boost to launch

I was just noticing the other day that my truck won't build boost when I brake and load it up at a light or anything. I have watched numerous videos watching others boost gauges build all the way to close to twenty before they let go. My boost gauge goes no where. I also feel like I seem to have a lot of turbo lag at times. This being my first diesel Im not too sure on what good lag and bad lag feels like. My truck may be stock but I feel like it should be able to build boost and roast the tires at a stand still and it wont. Just looking for some advice on what it could be and be pointed in the right direction. Im slowly putting together my builtproofing build. So really want to get this settled and fixed before I dig into it and start throwing crazy tunes at it.
thanks in advance!

i noticed mine wouldnt build up pressure before i rebuilt my turbo and put in my sct livewire tuner. idk what one allowed it to build up the boost but if u already have a tuner its most likely a turbo rebuild. wasnt much i think 150$ and took a couple 2 tree hours of cleanin er up. but before i did that it would only run up to about 2000 rpms if that and about 8 -10 lbs boost. now i can run her up to 3400 and let go at about 24 psi.
hope this helps man. good luck
