So I took my truck into a diesel shop for no start. They said no compression. They said there was a bad roller lifter bearing because if the old low pressure gears I brought to them had signs of wear. I agreed and felt that this seemed to be correct. Still no evidence tho. I authorize them to do a complete rebuild of the motor while I'm out of town on business for 2 months. I ask them to send me some photos and progress. They sent me a pic of bent up pushrods and an old angle of the block deck. Said it was off to the machine shop. Now I'm back and I go to the shop and they tell me the engine was in need of a .030 over Bore. That's fine but why? They said said something about the piston hitting valve which pushed the rocker arms into the pushrods. That has nothing to do with the cyclinder walls. Right? I think it was a BS answer because of the way he answered. I have the valve that was replaced too. It shows no signs of damage from a piston. Just damage from the bad valve guide. Which was the first reason the lead mech told me he replaced it. I asked to see the lifters, they were all good. They said I could reuse they but I opted to buy new ones instead. BUT LIFTERS WERE THE ENTIRE REASON FOR THE REBUILD!
So as I look around the and see a few other 6.0 engines tucked in the corners I wonder if they swapped my motor. Or just my block. Did they decide what the heck he is spending the 6 grand to rebuild let's give him one of these engines and we will keep his. I know that doesn't sound ethical but I think they should have called me as soon as they realized the source of my no start may have only been the bent pushrods. Or when they did verify that the lifters were good. I didn't take my truck there to continue throwing money/parts at it. Granted it shouldn't have any issues at all. Oh and also the new pistons are stamped .020 over. Shouldn't they be .030 if that's what it was bored it??
How can I find out what engine serial number came with my truck.
