I got a quote from a local respected diesel shop for $1200-1300 to flush the coolant, replace the oil cooler with factory one, and replace EGR cooler with bullet proof one, all new coolant.
That seem like a good price? He said he is shaving a 'few' hours off the labor rate because he has done this many times on the 6.0.
This may not be the answer that you are looking for but Ill just throw this out their. If you have any wrench turning skills you can do this job yourself. With very basic tools. The job looks like a lot but is....shall I say shockingly easy. You could save some bucks for sure.
Thanks everyone, I agree. I like to work on things. But my back is in bad shape. A week ago I installed a new alternator and replaced the intercooler boot, and that killed my back for almost two days, and that was with using a topside creeper!
I do much better with things like brakes (where I can sit on a stool most the time), or things under the truck.
The mechanic is also going to split the turbo and clean it, install a new thermostat, and install a blue spring mod, and install my coolant filter kit that I haven't installed yet.
One bonus is having a professional that knows this specific engine really well and get in and take a look so I have a good reference/starting point to know how the engine is (and I'm a diesel noob, this is first one). He already spent an hour with it, and injectors are good, identified a new FICM PO put on, went through the suspension, pulled EGR valve, etc. Only thing bad is high oil/coolant delta, but EGR cooler hasn't failed yet. He said everything is is good. He spent over an hour total talking to me about the engine, things to look for, maintenance suggestions, etc. Good piece of mind.
But going forward, will do whatever work I can myself as my body allows. :thumb:
