So I was over at a guys place today to buy a goose neck hitch he recently removed from his 2005 6.0. He also removed the engine and replaced with a cummins and has the 6.0 with everything sitting in his shop. Wire harnesses, turbo, injectors, ficm, etc etc. Everything is there but the inter cooler and radiator. He said he would take 400 bucks for it. Here is what he knows about it. The engine would start up and run fine for a while but then "stop". Thats all he could tell me. Then it would not start up again until you waited overnight. thenn the next morning it would start up again and run a while. His assessment of the problem (or maybe the best guess of the guy he got the truck from) was that the injector was letting way too much diesel in and hydro locking. The diesel would drain into the pan overnight and then be fine for a while again. He also said the dipstick smelled like diesel.
what do you need it for? Whatever the problems were they exceeded the cost or reasoning of a cummins swap. Do you want to buy it then get nickled and dimed and find out its a lemon motor?
no I sure dont want to find out it is a lemmon. The guy got the cummins free via buying a non working dodge, fixing the dodge. pulling the engine, and getting his money back out by selling the truck. If I had a cummins I would pull a perfectly good 6.0 and swap. So I thought his issues might not be too major.not sure what i need it for but maybe if i can make it run i will have more options. thanks
for $400 that is a smokin deal, part out the block, the heads, crank shaft, pistons, injectors, turbo, FICM, you've got over $1500 sitting in the engine, ebay and craigslist all that stuff.
I don't know where you are in NC but I'm in Asheville and all we do is re-manufacture Powerstrokes. I'll buy the engine off you just the way it is as a core so you don't have to strip it down and try to sell a bunch of parts that you don't even know if they are good or not. (828) 772-0038 Rob
