P0470 question (update)

04 Excursion, 68k, EGR/cooler delete, IDP tune. Rough start/idle this morning. It threw P0470. I removed the tube and sensor, cleaned them both. Still idling rough with no power but does not throw the code now. Could the sensor be bad without throwing the code? Would it take time for the code to come back? Thanks in advance.

I will just tell you my experience with that code. I only got it when I was not running a cat. When the sensor started to go bad it would blow grayish black smoke and have no power from a standstill.Idle was fine until the PCM got a bad reading from that sensor and the idle tone would change drastically..I had to put the truck in Neutral and rev it up to 3k and blow it all out for it to run fine.Clearing the code worked for about 40 miles and it would come right back.Is it really cold where you are?DO you have a monitor?.I put the cat on (SMOG reasons) and replaced the sensor and never had the problem again. Is there any other codes showing with it?

It was 0 degrees yesterday into today. It blew nasty black smoke yesterday but not today. Tone is noticeably louder(growl). I let it warm up this morning and the idle quieted down and smoothed out briefly (10-20 sec) but went back to rough. It will rev up smooth to 3k but when I let off it barely stays running. I have P0403, P0405 but I've had them since I did the EGR/cooler delete over a year ago and it's always ran fine. EGR is disabled in the tune. I only have a SCT.

Maybe someone else will chime in but that sensor will cause the change in tone briefly and cause smoke. The roughness sounds like a sticky injector but I could be wrong.Hard to tell without seeing or hearing it.

Well, I changed the sensor and no change. Ordered a Dashboss so I can see what's going on.

I'll also note when it's in gear there is no throttle response when pressing the accelerator.
