GREY SMOKE EVERYWHERE!!!!

So, I just finished my egr delete knowing that the truck was running rough and blowing grey smoke everywhere, even at idle.

I have checked the FICM voltages and it checked out good.

replaced #1 injector with brand new motorcraft

Replaced injector harness

Now, I am still getting a #1 contribution code and have called Ed at FICM repair.com. He told me that it could very well be a failed logic side of the FICM board. (very nice and informative by the way)

I have ordered a new FICM with the atlas 40 tune.

What I was wondering was if anyone had any ideas on if in fact it is the FICM or if maybe the injector is bad? something along those lines, although I have a hard time believing that a brand new injector with less than 500 miles is already shot.

Any input is greatly appreciated.

Does the smoke color change if you unplug the #1 injector while running?

I have not tried that. I may have to do that tomorrow. Do you think that the smoke would be less if I unplugged the injector because it wouldn't be fueling?

Not really less smoke but if it changes color, more than likely you have an issue with the new injector. Could be sticking open or possibly a cracked nozzle.

Okay. I'll be sure to check that tomorrow. It makes me think the FICM went out because the injector was fine up until like a week ago before I started to tear it down for the egr delete. I guess it could start sticking open or get a cracked tip at anytime though.

Well I got my truck fixed. Injector hold down had backed off. Put on a new copper washer and o rings and torqued it down. Good as new. And, the new FICM is awesome!
