just some words of advice

Ok guys so my dads 03 6.0 powerstroke was having problems and would die and stuff. So i did a whole bunch of research and went ahead and went for the hpop. So I tackled the job not knowing what i was getting into but forums for the win. I went ahead and put in new hpop and seals and gaskets for itm,egr and turbo and changed ipc and with the pigtail. So anyway what a pain in the arse it was but got her done. But on the first start the truck made a awfull loud crunching sound like im guessing were the gears meet up for the hpop and trans are something. But didnt ever do it again just that once. It could of also been the starter anyone else ever witness this. And finally when i go to start truck it wont start right up after the glow plug light goes off but will start everytime once you hear the fuel pump done priming so just guessing i have to drive it more only did 30 miles so far then maybe air will come out lines.

I would imagine the HPOP (system) needs time to get the air out of the system. When I replaced mine ( 05 F250... same time as adding BPD oil cooler) it took a good 30 miles or more to get all the air out.

what about any loud crunching noise come from your when you went to start it. It scared the hell out of me lol.

It could have been the bendix from the starter, but only you would know where the sound came from. As far as it being the HPOP gear, you should have ensured the gear was meshed before torquing it down. If you suspect the HPOP gear, you will need to go back in and retorque it. I suspect, since it was very loud, that it was the starter not engaging correctly.

Yes as i was standing back waiting for anything to happen lol. It did sound like the area of the starter as the motor gets no fuel it sure does turn over real fast like. And the hpop did sit down nice and flat before i torqued it. And the sound has not came back since the first start and truck run better than ever. Except air in lines hoping it escapes lol.
