Need Help Motor is locked up , how to drain cylinders ??

2003 Excursion 6.0 went to put fuel in fuel light was on ,,, put a 100.00 worth of when I started after refueling,,,, I noticed the engine missing , no noise , no check engine light ,,,, but puffing black smoke a little ...enough to watch it on the side mirror ,,, So I drove to closest auto part store added some diesel cleaning additive ... Drove another 60 miles , I was out of town ,,, and I noticed the smoke getting more and more , especially going up hills under a load.....than I started hearing the banging noise , it would come and go , louder ,, and quitter when I pushed more on the gas pedal , and the smoke started really pouring out,,, by the time I go off of the interstate,,, the engine was really shaking and smoking bad ,,,, black cloud of smoke ... so I parked it , scanned it ,, no code ,,, I emptied the fuel tank,,, and will be installing a new filter and new diesel tom,,,, but I am thinking I have a major problem....

Does this sound like my injector or injectors failed .... this truck ran flawlessly before this last fuel up.....

and can someone help me diagnose my problem thanks

Smoke was my first sign of a failed injector...lots of it. BUT, I didn't have a banging noise.

You were on fumes when you fuelled up. Drain your low point/water plug. Changing your filters is a must. Was there water in the fuel after you drained it?

You may have damaged a nozzle, assuming it isn't another non-related issue. You may have to pull the injectors to trace down the banging, unless it was misfire related.

Could have an EGR valve stuck also which would explain the black smoke.

It is the hex plug on the HFCM.

It could be anything. This is the type of issue that, as Murphy said, will show up as an unrelated problem to muddy the water when trying to figure out what just happened.

Glow plugs are right above the exhaust manifolds. There is a wiring harness for each side. The harness has to be removed to get to plugs.

Draining the cylinders? Never heard this before. So does this mean your head gaskets blew?
