Recently my 06 started blowing out white smoke on occasion. it only does it when its been drove a little while and you come to a stop light or it sitting and idling. it will do it for 10 to 20 secs and let up. Anyone have any ideas what the crap is going on with it?

take it into the dealer, but odds are this is being caused by a failed EGR cooler

Thanks Marc, i've had it in once but they couldn't get any codes and said therefore there was nothing they would do yet. they didn't seem real concerned but i am tired of seeing all the smoke pass me at stop lights. there is difinetely something going wrong or they would all do this! I am going to take it back soon and have them snoop around some more.

what causes the egr cooler fail and is there a fix for it?

Yah Marc, I gotta know. The 04 truck I got last month started it real bad. I thought it was my PPE tuner on 10 that did a number on the head bolts. The dealer said it was common and I can get her back in the morning. Is there anything I can do to stop this?

IMO, white smoke is probably an injector leaking somewhere. My 95 Powerstroke finally had the O rings in an injector to deteriorate and it started leaking fuel. It would smoke pretty heavy till it warmed up and the seal came back in tact.
I fixed mine by replacing the O rings on the injectors. I'm not sure if it's the same on these new engines, but that would be my guess. Skipper |

Thats funny, My 7.3 hits 30psi with ease and has been up to 42psi for a few seconds. I was thinking she was coming through hood. I would like to have a 6.0 turbo on my 7.3. Hey Marc, is there a way to bypass egr cooler safely?
