load tapping noise/locked up

I have a 2006 F250 with 55k miles all of the sudden I heard a loud tapping noise coming from the motor got to my shop, opened the hood and was listening for where it was coming from. Decided it was coming from the driver side front of the valve cover something in the valve train. Then while confirm where the noise was coming from it shut off and locked up the motor. wont crack its locked up tight.

Anyone know or have something like this happen to them?

Thanks
Tony

Will do. Really crappy timing I was supposed to leave at 1:30am from Tampa FL to deliver a boat to port of savannah Ga. But the motor took a crap on me so this morning. So when I get back into town hopefully my guys will have the valve cover off by the end of the day ill take some pics. Really pissed since the truck only has 55k miles.

Wow, that's sux for sure. If its locked up, pulling the valve cover probably isn't going to help you solve your problem. Maybe you'll get lucky enough to just have the motor hydro locked without extensive damage!

Was there any smoke? Hopefully its just a hydroed cylinder from fuel. Usally an easy fix. New orings and copper washer and proper torque and install.

No smoke at all. If its from the fuel then what was the noise?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't injectors sometimes loud (depending on issue) when they are having big problems?

Yes... Its called injecotr knock. I just had one in that almost sounded like metal to metal or valve to piston contact. Had a cyl4 contribution code. Pulled cyl 4 glow plug and cranked it over. Whole cylinder of fuel came out. Speaking of which any codes?

Ah ha this makes much more sence. That is exactly what it sounded like and it's also the same side of the motor cyl 2, or 4 it sounded like. I was so pissed and had to call around to get a tow vheicle I didn't even look at the codes.

I will check that tomorrow. I am a bit new to diesel so never knew a injector could make that noise.

If it has cyl contribution codes...Thats where I would start. Remove those glow plugs and crank it over.

Word of advice:
I highly recomend removing the FICM relay and unplugging the fuel pump when doing this. The Ficm relay is so the injector do not fire and the fuel pump is so that more fuel will not be pumped into the cylinder. Also I would recomend closing the hood and DO NOT have anybody stand next to the truck when trying this. The fuel comes out extremely fast. That is if fuel hydrolocking is the issue.
