Black specks in my oil

Checked my oil a couple days ago to find several (20-30)small black specks on the end of my dip stick. The engine was cool, but not cold. I wiped it off and dipped it again.....same thing. The pieces were the size of grains of sand and would crush into smaller pieces making me think they are carbon deposits. Just a guess though. I added Lucas injector cleaner back in December, but havent since then. No other additives. Only 2000 miles on this oil change(November 2012). I have checked it several times since and haven't found as many, sometimes nothing at all. I'm baffled. I have yet to find anyone that has had this happen to them, but i'm sure i'm not the first, so someone chime in here.....

What type of oil do you use? How long between oil changes? Has your engine been overheated? Are the specks kind of like a hard black plastic?

Id change your oil, and see if the problem persists.
