Lots Of Smoke!

for the last few days my truck has been bellowing black smoke at the beginning when accelerating from a stop. feels like a ton of turbo lag almost a dead spot, dumps black smoke then a second or two into it it takes off. have had the truck since new, 3 years now and 40k miles later. talked to marc before about what i thought was excessive turbo lag, this is way worse and never had this much black smoke before. do programmers need to be unloaded and updated somehow over time? have had an sct programmer in mine for 1.5 years or so on the middle setting. i have a great service center so will take it in over the next few days however thought i would ask the forum for their input. thanks!
truck is an 04' 6.0

Sounds kinda like what mine does when I get into it and have the TS turned up. Black smoke until the turbo kicks in and adds more air to the mix. Your not getting an SES or any codes are ya?

no codes. but its never been like this before. i have turbo lag and some black smoke normally but atleast my truck is moving! feels like i'm standing still and the smoke is out of control. i should mention im not standing on the pedal either. just normal acceleration around town stuff.

Well if it wasn't doing it before than something could possibly be wrong. And you do or don't have a chip?

i do have an SCT programmer. been in for 1.5 years or so.
i think it might be a sensor. have had a few minor sensor issues over the years. i think the egr was replace once as well.

honestly it sounds like a sticking turbo to me. It could be EGR related as well though. This is another one of those "need a scan tool" situations
