Trouble with '05 PowerStroke (a bitova read)

Hey all ! Let me start by saying that I've been a long time lurker of this site, and it's GREAT ! Lots of knowledge, and good 'tudes...
Here's the deal : 2005 xcab, LB, 4x4, 4 inch straighties, no CAT, Edge, cold-air intake kit. 61,000 miles.
Last year doin some heavy haulin, started blowin coolant out of degas bottle, re-occured every now and then, found out I missed recall of "new" coolant level in bottle, dealer says I was overfillin. (wasn't lookin at this site back then) To this day seeps around cap. Happening more frequently this year so I stripped the truck of all mods and put the stock pipe back on, took to dealer for fear of head gaskets. Dealer says they're fine, no contam. of coolant. Dealer did some flashes on truck, off I went. Truck is still stock, last week drivin along, loses power, more pedal, nothing, put it in N, feather the pedal, blows a bunch of black smoke, fine again. Came home, changed all fuel filters, drained water sep, fine for a few days, happened again today, CEL came on, came home cleaned up EGR valve, found it was sticking open. CEL light not reset so I can borrow a scanner to find out which codes. DO YOU GUYS THINK THESE THINGS ARE RELATED ? I'll drive tomorrow to see if EGR did the trik, has this bull%&*^ happened to anyone else ? I'm still losing coolant, not sure how much being blown out, or where it's going. Truck never overheats. Is EGR valve covered under (emissions) Warranty ?
Should I do EGR blockoff ? I want my pipes and mods back but a little worried.

Thanks a million,
Tom

Doesn't the Edge read codes?

Plug the edge in and just scan it for codes. I'm pretty sure you don't need the Edge program in the truck to scan for codes.

i definately think your last issue was related to the gummed up EGR valve...

Was the EGR valve gummed up with dry carbon.....or was it "sticky" or "gooey"? If it wasnt dry carbon your EGR cooler could be on its way out....

Your puking before could be a few things....

Of course it could be headgaskets or an EGR cooler....

It could also just be flashboiling of the coolant....which is worse if the coolant level isnt a little below the origional minimum line on the bottle....

Thanks Montana Mark,
EGR was gummed up, all coking and carbon was dry (good ?)
Seems to have done the trick, drove 200 miles in the last two days, no glitches.
I hear that the cleaning will probably only be a temp fix, but at 200 bucks, I may do it a few more times.
Any thoughts on Edge Perf module ?
