I have a 2003 6.0l. At idle every 15-20 seconds my turbo whistle will quiet way down like it quit spinning. Then 15-20 seconds it gets loud again (straight piped) I've never heard another truck do this. It spools up fast when the pedal hits the floor and I can pull 30+ pounds of boost but is it normal for the turbo to do that?
That's normal. It is part of your truck's strategy code. Ford incorporated the vane sweep that you are experiencing to try to keep the vanes from sticking.
If you ever need any work done on that thing let me know lol. I'm doing a complete engine swap for another member on here as we speak. Just gotta pull this engine (hopefully by Wednesday that will be done) and then wait on the new engine to arrive.
LOL they all have their issues, but once you get past them they are GREAT engines.
