04 hpop discharge tube

Im new to the forum and the diesel world. Bought a 04 6.0 couple weeks back and i am learning alot! I have read through many posts on here about several issue. I have one question. How do you disconnect the hpop discharge tube from the branch tube on a 04 late build? Im sure im beating a dead horse but any info would be great!

Can i get this tool at autozone or do i have to go to ford? How much do they run?

I got an after market one on ebay for about 25.00. Ford will charge you an arm and a leg for it.

I use the tool that comes with the air die grinders. As long as it will go around the tube, it will work.

Thanks guys hopefully once i replace this it will be the end of my hot no start issue lol! I have already replaced eveything else in the hpos due to inexperience. Thanks again

Check your discharge tube, the 03's and 04's had some instances of the discharge tube rubbing the HPOP cover. Ford came out with an updated cover that has a recessed area to add space between the tube and the cover. I had to do this to mine;

Here's a picture of the updated HPOP cover, notice the curved, raised area on the top of the cover.

I just looked at it and doesnt have an wear marks on the tube or the cover. Is this something i should since in in there anyway?

If you don't see any wear marks on the tube, your most likely ok.
