6.0L loss of power (limp mode??)Help!

Hey guys,

I'm new to the site. However I'm not new to this problem!
My brothers 04 6.0L has been acting up for the past two months or so.
What happends:

When the truck hasn't been running for a few hours and he goes to start it up the truck will start fine, however when you put it under load the truck suddenly looses power and will run and sound nice but with the pedal down 100% it will only run as if it were down about 15%.

Now here's the weird thing, he has a diablo trinity programmer on the truck, when the problem comes up we check for codes and the usuall egr codes come up because of the egr delete. Then we clear the codes and restart the truck the problem is fixed! It won't happen again until he leaves the truck for a while.

I've looked everywhere and can't seem to find anything remotely related to this problem. If anyone might have some ideas on possible causes or fixes we would be very happy!!

Thanks in advance guys.

Nick

Set the tune back to stock and remove the tuner and see if the problem still occurs. That is not the greatest selection of tuner for this truck.

What are all the vitals when the problem occurs. ie. EGT, fuel pressure, temps, etc? Is it an automatic tranny?

If I understand you correctly you are saying after you clear the codes and recrank the vehichle it runs fine for a while and then the problem returns. If this is what you are saying this happens because you have erased the code and the computer is out of limp mode, it takes a certain amount of cycles before it recordes the fault throwing it back into limp mode...

If the EGR is deleted and there is no EGR delete on the tuner, this may have your ECU throwing you into limp mode. I'm not too familiar with the tuner, does it have the EGR delete capabilties? Was the EGR delete done recently? and did this start after the EGR delete was done?

Yeah the diablo does not have an option for the egr delete, a custom tune would need to be made. The only thing is the truck still has the problem when the tuner is removed.... The egr was done with the last owner which was at least months before the tuner. The problem seemed to randomly start...(wasnt changing anything at the time it started)
