Weird noise when accelerating

A few days ago I started noticing that whenever I hit the accelerator, a blowing-like noise comes from the motor. I haven't noticed this noise during the two years I've had the truck. It does seem like I'm loosing power but my boost gauge seems normal. It sounds like its coming from the driver side of the motor, but that might just be because that's where I'm sitting and can hear it. The best way to describe the noise is that once I hit the gas, my ac turns full blast and whoosh! I have a 2005 f-250 6.0 with straight piped mbrp 4" exhaust and the noise is just as loud as that. It doesn't make the noise if I try to power brake it, as a friend suggested thats a way to test the intake side of the turbo. ANY help is GREATLY appreciated!

Is it your fan clutch engaging? Hows your coolant level?

My coolant level is OK, but you are the second person to mention fan clutch. I just found on another forum mention of this. How do I test to see if my fan clutch is bad?

Ive never had to test one but everytime Ive had one fail on me, on any vehicle ive driven or had, it has always failed in the engaged position, and almost sounded like a broken exhaust manifold and totally killed the engine power

When it is idleing, you can hear a hiss coming from behind the turbo, so I have it going into the shop on Monday with what is thought to be a cracked Y pipe. I'm starting to smell fumes in the cab, and with a pregnant wife, that isn't sitting well with her. I will let you know what they say.
