Shopping for a Powerstroke.
I know yall are probably tired of noobs asking the same questions over and over again. I did attempt to search for my answers before posting, but failed to find the information i was looking for.
I am looking for a Diesel truck, based on my price range i will probably end up with a 6.0. It go's without saying that the more information you can get on a used vehicle the better. Would you consider purchasing a 6.0L with 150,000 Miles on it from an independent dealer who in all likelihood has little to no information on the trucks past. If yes What things would you look for? I know about looking at the DEGAS bottle for sludge/buildup, and for white smoke. But when will i see the white smoke? at idle? start up? WOT? What if any test should i preform? What about a combustion gas test kit? Would that help me quickly diagnose head problems in a diesel?
Also, If i were to purchase one. What up grades are necessary, and which ones are not? I know some of the common ones, Head gaskets/studs, EGR delete, Oil cooler. Are all of the needed? Or should you only worry about replacing head gaskets if you are having issues?
Thank You,
Boots.
