Well ive got a 2005 6.0L w/ about 34000 miles on it. Ive got it strait piped and a quad commander to monitor stuff, and thats about it for the mods. I bought it in May 2007 used w/ 22000 miles. I have been having more and more issues w/ it as time has gone on. The first thing that I noticed was this crap in the degas bottle kinda grity and gooey. It all started when I was towing the one day goin up hill and I wanted to see what the ole gal had for balls. I was quite impressed
. Then the fun died. I started smelling coolant real bad. My egts were about 1250 or so. I pulled over thinkin I blew a hg, but didnt see any coolant on the gound and no white smoke, but there was a considerable amount of coolant boiling out of the degas bottle. I ignored it b/c a buddy of mine has a 6.0 and his does it some too. Well as time goes on it doesnt take much at all (1000 deg) to make it do the same. I lowered my coolant level below the min (new deler sticker) and it seemed to quit. Well for 2 months that was great. Until here lately w/ in the last week or so my coolant level keeps dropping about 1/2 inch every week in the degas bottle. I have also noticed white smoke at startup, I park on a hill and the smoke gets worse when I get level, and the engine doesnt like to start real well and kinda barks and idles a little rough at first startup until shes warms up its right now in the 20s. Along w/ this problem the other day I was hittin it hard tryin to pass this little pos ricer and had it wot goin up hill unloaded and it cut out on me I got a long repeated turbo fart my boost gauge read in the 40s and the truck really bucked and jerked like no power almost like it had a horrible case of the hiccups, and my egts went thru the roof and smoked black real bad (the only cool part was the smoke dang that was awesome), it wouldnt quit til i let outta the accelerator. It hasnt done it again but I feel that it was the egr valve sticking or the turbo vanes sticking. I now have terrible turbo lag, dont have near the power and the git up is gone outa the accelerator. I am takin her to see the dealer on wed 1-16. It could be any of the following or a combo I think based on my rookie knowledge: egr cooler cracked, egr valve sticking, oil cooler goin(may be the root cause of the egr problems), turbo vanes sticking or God forbid the heads are gettin ready to go. Lucky for me Ive still got the 3/36000 warranty on my side. What should I tell/ have the dealer do if there are any of the above listed problems? I really think that the egr cooler is cracked and leakin a bit. If so the egr cooler and oil cooler should be replaced right?? Let me know what you guys are thinkin.
