Bad Turbo?

I have a 2004 CC/SB currently on stock tune, the truck has 175k on it. My problem is the turbo sounds like a shopvac with a rag stuck in it when I turn on the high idle. I pulled the air filter and the noise continued the same. any ideas, I'm thinking the turbo is on it's way out.

It is quite possible. It is 9 years old and a mid miler. It should spin easily. Check the play, with light pressure it shouldn't scrape the housing. If it does, you may be able to rebuild it, as long as there is no damage. It probably needs a good cleaning, including the vanes.
