#8 fuel injector!

got 6 inches of snow monday, had to use the 4wheel drive monday. noticed the truck was smoking ALOT on Tuesday, smoke was gray and black, no codes on the scan gauge. too the truck to the shop, they said # 8 fuel injector was bad. truck has 118,000miles on original injectors. What would cause the #8 injector to go bad? i do all my own maintenance, i even installed the BPD oil cooler,BPD egr cooler, and BPD FICM. truck has been running good till tuesday.

#8 due to its position is the most likely to fail if it gets low on fuel, suffers fuel aeration, gets wet (intake issues or fuel), or gets some contamination from the oil system. Of course, it could have just broke for the heck of it. As well, anytime the system is cracked for major work, contaminates can enter the system and eventually end up somewhere you don't want them. This situation could have been brewing long before it started to show itself.
