Stalls when fuel is under 1/4 tank
Ok so i rarely let my fuel go below 1/4 tank. The other day I let the fuel go JUST below the line and I was on my way to the gas station and it started sputtering and just shut off. I let it sit for a minute and it fired right back up. I was able to drive it another few minutes and it did the same thing. After finally making it to the gas station i put fuel in and diesel kleen. The truck will run fine for a few minutes and then die out. I've noticed it only does this once the truck is at operating temp. What could this be?

Re: Stalls when fuel is under 1/4 tank
Took the tank down and it was exactly as you said. That diaphragm was at the bottom of the tank. I ran it and it stalled again. I'm hoping its just getting the leftover air out of the system. Hopefully it will be up and running tomorrow

Re: Stalls when fuel is under 1/4 tank
Update: so I've quite possibly found a cure for my trucks symptoms. First, a big thanks to Jugernaut for his assistance. I've been lost up to this point but his expertise has proved very valuable . If you've been keeping up with the thread the original problem was the truck would shutter and die out whenever fuel was below 1/4 tank. It was brought to my attention a diaphragm on the pickup in the tank can sometimes be jarred loose causing air to get into the fuel system. I had to remove the fuel tank to fix that problem , however after it was fixed the stalling problem persisted.
I hooked up a scanner to the truck hoping to find the culprit but everything was fine. FICM was reading 48.5v batteries were good , deltas were only 4* apart....so Jugernaut suggests letting the truck run until it stalls again and then check the fuel bowl/filter to see if fuel is getting to the motor. I did just that and the thing was empty..... The point of the story is the fuel pump must have crapped out on me when it was sucking air, thus I need a new fuel pump. Ordering one in the morning and hoping to be installed by the afternoon. On a side note this forum is amazing. Jugernaut didn't know me from dirt and took the time to help out. Thanks again. |

Ive been thinking about doin this mod, to get away from not lettin drop below 1/4 tank, because, well, whats the point in a 38 gallon tank if you cant utilize the whole thing. Anybody done it? Anybody see a down side? XDP Black Anodized Diesel Fuel Tank Sump Kit - No Tank Drop Install

Stalls when fuel is under 1/4 tank
I'm currently running that exact setup on my truck it's a sweet unit only down side is gotta notch the skid plate to clear it. Fairly easy install once you get past the point of drilling a two inch hole in the bottom of your tank lol.
