I would also recommend using motorcraft filters. A lot of poeple say that fram filters are the same. Do you want to risk your engine to save a few cents maybe a dollar? Just get the motorcraft and you know that they are the correct filters.

Uhhhhh black smoke is raw diesel that isnt completely compressed in the exhuast stroke of the diesel engine.....thats how you roll coal.....when you stomp on it you over fuel and the piston cant compress all the fuel in the cylinder chamber which leads to the "rolling coal" obviously you dont deserve to own a diesel.....

Blue smoke - oil. Probably from the turbo. Depending on the sun angle, it might look white.
White smoke - lightly burned diesel from a non-igniting cylinder. That is what we used for plain smoke at airshows. Yes, it can have a slight blue tinge or black if it is ignited in the cylinder. For both, smell gives it away.

The colder it is, the noisier it will be. You should hear mine in the cold winter up hear. You need ear-plugs to walk in front of it after a real cold start!

If it is running fine without any missing, your course of action should make it a bit quieter. Use 5w40 synthetic.

Totally unnecessary.........^^^^^^

I agree blue is a bit of oil, my old 96 obs was putting out blue smoke after waay to many miles on the oil. A fresh oil change cured it for me. Motorcraft filters with matching cap. I get my motorcraft oil filter from walmart, for a dollar more than the fram.

I'm think my HG's are still planted because the truck isn't pressurizing the coolant system, using any coolant, and it's not puking. Anyways I thought I might tell y'all that I just came back with some synthetic CJ-4 oil and a Motorcraft filter. You're right it was only a dollar more expensive, I just stated earlier I was using a Fram one because that was all the parts store near me had. I needed to go a little farther for the Motorcraft one.

I got the Motorcraft stuff, supposed to be semi-synthetic. I might go somewhere else and find some Delvac 1.
