Cam change
I getting ready to do a cam change in 6.0. I see there is a special tool for setting the timing gears. Do I need this tool or is there a way to do it without the tool? Also, any tips and tricks would be greatly appreciated.

Why are you doing a cam swap?

Lifter went bad and scored the lobe.

Ouch. That sucks. Good luck man.

Not mine, doing it for a friend. What sucks is he took it to somebody else a year ago, the guy pulled the heads and pushed it outside, then he sold the injectors and ficm(claims they were stolen) Now I have a basketcase to put together.

Cam replacement on a 6.0 is a unbelievable nightmare.

I have figured that out, but it has to be done. Engine is out of the truck and going on the stand today. Going to pull the crank and cam today and make a parts list for reaasembly. Should be fun.

Not to go off topic but I have a brand new (unopened boxes) set of 16 lifters and 4 guides for sale. $200 for the set

We will keep them in mind.
Does anybody know if it is possible to leave the rod caps on and just lift the crank up enough to get the cam out or do I need to pull the rod caps and pull the cranlk all the way out? Also on the rear seal, does a new one come as one piece with the inner metal "flange" or not? |
