07' 6.0L EGR or HPOP problems?

Yesterday on the way to work i was going down the highway. Every time i would step on the throttle it would sputter out. So i got off the highway to the feeder road and tried to limp it back home. When i slowed down to go under the highway to head home i rolled down the window to listen to the motor. Probably the loudest knocking ive ever heard, sounded like a diesel on an old tractor. As i proceeded to make my way home, i didnt make it no more than 30yrds down the feeder road. No acceleration, no boost, sputtered out, trany wouldn't shift out of gear, i turned the truck off, called a wrecker. Got it towed to the dealership down the street, called them this morning and they "think" its the HPoP.

Would the HP0P cause these problems?

Why do i think its an EGR problem? A buddy of mine back in KS has 2 6.0l's and is very well read on the problems and fixes. I told him exactlly what i told you guys, and before i got finished he told me it was the EGR valve.

Before yesterday morning i had no problems what so ever. No problem with starts, smoke, surges, nothing. Ran like a champ.

Im no dummy, just new to the diesel game. I need your guys's help!

knocking does not sound like an EGR valve to Me I can't fathom how a knocking noise would generate from a stuck open valve

wonder why it wouldn't shift out of gear ?
