Nedd help! Codes P0299, P0404, P0478

Hi there,

I need some help. I am over in Germany and have trouble with my 2005, F250, 6.0 Liter Diesel, about 45.000 miles.

Overall it does not have the power anymore that it used to have and sometimes when I accelerate, there is NO power at all. Blue smoke and not over 25 mph. After 10 sec or so, it is over and I have power back. Sometimes it takes longer and it smokes like there is no tomorrow. But, when ideling its ok, engine sounds ok.

When I start it, it idles ok. Nothing seems wrong.

The shops over here dont know much about FORD Trucks and I only got some codes from them.
They recommended to change the EGR Valve and said that the codes P0299, P0404 and P0478 might be gone then.

Since about two years there is also a noise if I accelerate and get off the pedal quickly. It sounds like tschtschtsch and I could not really locate it. But it seems to come around the airfilter area. Not sure if that has something to do with my powerloss.

I have to admit that we did not really drive it hard and I saw in the forum that these trucks need that sometimes.

Is there another sensor or part that I should exchange when I order the EGR valve in the US? What else could cause this powerloss?
I appreciate your help very much!

You should pull the egr and clean it first. Sounds like you may have a turbo boost leak. Check the cac boots for rips or tears, check around the exhaust flex joint for smoke or soot. Get a monitor on that truck.

Sent from my phone that somebody didn't help me get.

^^^^X2 I would clean the egr for sure, sounds like your turbo is sticking p0299 is underboosting via EP for 30 seconds or more so something is up. As far as the noise when you abruptly let off throttle you are forcing backpressure through the intake and when turbo vanes wont relax it gets harsher. You can try standing on throttle through repetative runs but turbo will probably need a cleaning. It is possible the EP sensor is causing the turbo issue even the pcm but not as likely as the turbo itself.

Sounds like you have some cleaning to do there are some good videos out there on cleaning the EGR Valve from what i have seem it takes some persuasion to get it out. there are a couple threads on the .org with some of the codes your getting ie P0478. and like mhatlen said when you get on it as you know you build boost and when you abruptly let off theres nowhere for all that air pressure to go but back out the way it came
