engine temp help!

hey guys I'm new to the diesel world I need some help with my truck. I noticed that the engine temp droped really low when I was driving on the highway about 70mph. I no with gas engines that can mean the T'stat has failed open my question is would that be the same thing for a diesel? I know the 6.0 have coolant problems could that be whats wrong too?

how do you know it dropped. what are you monitoring with or just using the dummy guages. with gassers, a sudden drop is caused by massive coolant loss through a hose or the rad. t stat stuck open wouldnt case a sharp drop but maybe a gradual decline.

i dont have a monitor yet im going to get one soon now. im using the factory guages why is say it dropped because it was below what it nomraly is but yesterday when i was driving it was fine it didnt drop at all but i did see some coolant around the T stat houesing.
