truck went to the shop today, what yall think
I was towing my race car saturday about 1 1/2 hrs ea way. it started overheating just shooting up and then coming down. i had to stop and put 1 gal water in it but continued to do it. When i got to the track i realized there was no pressure in the degass bottle so it was just boiling out. it never did this before and never externaly leaked, or smoked out the pipe. what yall think how much trouble am i in. never went over 230 and never whistled at me. it had a new stant cap on a while ago.

You could have some major issure or just a simple one. First get a new cap or test yours for the degass bottle. Try that first. If it is not coming out anymore after replacing the cap, your good.
230 is not too hot for the temp so you should be good there. Check for smoke when first starting it up in morning. |

no smoke no external leaks

Is the coolant coming out of the cap (new or old)? That is what I was asking.
What was it like on the way home from track? Did you have to add more coolant? Was there pressure in coolant system after adding coolant? |

degas bottle never had pressure, added 2 gals total threw the day it started 30min into the ride to the track. it acted like it was just boiling out due to no pressure, never whistled at me either

Have you started it cold since your trip? If so is there white smoke? If your still loosing coolant and still no coolant pressure (with no external leaks) then it must be going through exhaust or out cap of bottle. Is there evidence of coolant coming out of cap-- not wet but dry film? You can get a kit to test coolant pressure (some auto parts stores let you use theirs) or if you have it in shop have them check. |

You most likely have a bad cap or bad head gasket. Bad cap -- no leting it pressurize or very little. (since you stated it had no pressure in system) I would replace cap and see if that is all your problem is. If it still boils out of bottle with a new cap then it is overpressizing. Mostlikely bad head gasket. The shop should be able to check coolant pressure to see if it is overpressurizing. It is a simple test. |
