Simple question, head gaskets?
Simply put, can I swap head gaskets at with common air tools or is it a job requiring the cab removal bs like the studs? Never change gaskets before I don't want to find out the hard AGAIN this time!!

Its pretty much the same procedure. Either can be done cab on or cab off- i did mine cab on and will be doing a buddies truck soon the same way. And yes common air tools.

As I'm thinking about its should be an easy fix, removing the collectors is the 8 bolts (prolly 10 mm) and bolts for the up pipe, remove then replace gaskets..... Im only asking because I dont know of there's enough room to remove the collectors that fire is pretty tight in there in the drivers side!

Read over this thread, its pretty informative. All in all changing oil cooler, stc fitting and head gaskets i believe i was right around 18 hrs total. Mind you this was my first time going into a psd.
Leave the manifolds bolted to the head, disconnect the Y pipe instead. Some people take the whole AC box out of the truck which will give you plenty of room on the passenger side but i just took the small cover off the box-its behind the heat shield next to the head. |
