Engine/accessories squeaking - making noise...
Since I've had my truck, something on the front of the engine has made a squeaking noise. I've checked everything out and it seems like it's either the belt tensioner or the idler pulley.
Just curious if anyone else had/has this problem and if they've been able to fix it by replacing the idler or the tensioner? I'm about ready to order the parts just out of frustration, but am open to suggestions... |

The only real way to tell is with a stethascope, touching the probe to each suspect in turn. The one that is loudest is useually the culprit. One needs to be extremely carefull doing this. A belt that is glazzed can also squeak even without a bad/weak tensioner

I gave another listen to the truck tonight and it definitely sounded like it was the idler pulley. I went ahead and changed it - The bearing felt ok, but the pulley itself was badly glazed. Changing the pulley reduced the overall squeak noises by 85-90%. I'm happy.
