My Starter is Falling off

I went to start my truck and heard a click and then wiiiizzzz from the starter. I crawled under the truck and found part of a bolt and an empty hole from a bigger bolt. So I have one broke off and one completely missing. I just had the EGR deleted 3 months ago, is the starter removed in this process? Just curious if this is just a coincidence or if I should talk to the diesel shop before I spend a bunch of money on a starter and new bolts.

No, your starter just fell out. Get some replacement bolts from ford, and put it back in. surprised it had to fall out, before you to notice something was wrong. Disconnect your batteries before you put it back in, those batteries create alot of amperage. It is dangerous to work in tight spots with those battery cables, you dont want to ground them out.

That's kinda what I thought but I just wanted to check. It looks like one bolt is still tight and it has bent the mounting flange and cracked it so I will need a new starter as well.

i believe the 6.0l has a mounting bolt hole that looks like a bolt would go there but doesn't use it. the shop wouldn't have touched the starter for the egr. and when you get the starter out check your fly wheel to make sure no teeth are damaged. have seen some flywheels missing teeth so nothing for the starter to engage to
