2005 6.0 F250 4x4 no power
I tow a large toy hauler trailer 7500 lbs empty and up to 12,000 lbs. fully loaded. I bought the trailer first and then the truck two weeks later because my 2001 gas F-250 would not pull the 6% grade to where I live. I have 41,000 miles and have pulled this trailer several dozen times up this hill at 55 mph, no problem. In June, I was pulling and approx half way up the 9 mile grade, the engine started to bog down to 15-20 mph floored. Took it into the dealer and only found a low fuel supply code. Reset, changed fuel filters, no improvement. Had the truck in several more times with no success at resolving the problem. Took tech for a ride towing trailer and he could not explain what was wrong and no performance issues detected. They talked to Ford techs and decided to change turbo. Changed turbo, no change in low power. Took it in again and they said the current code did not have any altitude adj. and wanted me to stop then start before going up the grade. Did this, no change. Two weeks later, they have given up and say nothing is wrong. "Maybe my trailer is too heavy" . Unless my trailer is gaining weight, it is the same trailer I have been pulling for 2.5 years without any problem.
Any ideas? |

did they check the egr valve ? that is the biggest problem on these trucks from what i have read on here . welcome to the org.

to the org! You might try pulling and cleaning your EGR valve, like Powershooter suggests. It does make sense since it seems to have severe performance problems with a load on it. Also, please clarify what you mean by "Took tech for a ride towing trailer and he could not explain what was wrong and no performance issues detected." |

Thanks for the replies!
I am not sure if they checked the EGR valve. I will look into it. I had to prove to the mechanic that it would not pull my trailer because they were questioning that anything was wrong at all. He rode in the truck with me and monitored the computer. When the engine began loosing power going up the hill, all he could say was hummm. "i don't see anything on my laptop screen that says it should be loosing power" He asked "what happens when you really get on it?" I said I had it floored. We were going maybe 20 mph at that point and loosing speed. Again, same highway, same grade, same trailer, same truck. No problem for 2 1/2 years. Thanks again for your comments and suggestions. |

I removed and cleaned the EGR valve last night. Going to pull the trailer this weekend and I will post how it did.
Thanks! |

and the torqshift IS the 5R110.. one and the same. if the tech is just going to throw parts at it in an attempt to "hopefully" fix your problem, i would take it to a more knowledgeable dealer. that BS he fed you about altitude was the first clue those guys are not very bright. the engine is controlled by a computer that reads sensors such as MAF,MAP etc... these are all things that tell it exactly what the conditions are and this would make up for any atmospheric changes due to altitude... also, altitude only affected carbureted cars, not fuel injected vehicles or diesels anyway, so they must think you are gullible if they actually used that line on you. take it somewhere else, but at least you got a new turbo out of the deal. |

Chances are its a stupid $40 sensor.

Cleaning the EGR valve did not make a difference when pulling.
I did not buy the altitude deal either. I am going to take it somewhere else. Thanks! |

They have sensors on them that cheap?
I replaced my ICP recently as it decided to start leaking oil and it was a little pricy!
