Hey tech guys!! CEL DOES IT ALWAYS WORK

So for example if I had a failing icp or lcp sensor would it always put a code in the computer???

I have had 2 cracked heads,2 blown head gaskets,blown egr coolers,no coolant left in the system,and god only knows what else over the years,and the only time i ever saw the cel light come on in my truck is when I key it for the glowplugs in the a.m.,,

i have had so many things go out on my truck and the cel never came on once yet.
