05 Crank / No Start - Injection Stiction?
I posted this in General at first, but figured it needs to be over here instead.
Last Friday temps dropped to mid 30's overnight. First thing in the morning i tried to crank my 05 F250 to take the kid to school - no luck. After swapping cars and coming back, i got it to start, it belched a cloud of black smoke and then idled very rough for several minutes before smoothing out. Cranked fine the rest of the day. Sat the temps dropped into the mid 20's and i havent been able to get it cranked since. From reading on here, I suspect Injector Stiction is my problem so I changed the oil last night using Rotella T with 2 quarts of Marvel Mystery Oil. I can get it to turn over and idle for about 5 seconds, but still wont run. (temps were in mid to low 60's) I was over due for an oil change. 1) Am I right with my diagnosis? or could there be another issue? 2) what else can I do to try to get this cranked without major work? I'm hoping if it will just crank, the fresh oil and the MMO will clean the injectors and get rid of the problem. |

If i was a betting man I would be checking your FICM voltage, minimum of 48 volts, if not you need a new FICM or FICM repair, after that check your charging system and batteries. Generally weak batteries and extended crank times kill FICMs.
