OEM HeadGaskets only WITH Bolts?
I just bought my head gaskets from Ford an was told they ONLY come with new bolts. Is that correct? I just paid $151.38 ea. I don't want the bolts or the added price for them. I bought them but haven't opened them so I can return if I can just get the gaskets. I was planing on doing the work this weekend but can wait till next week to save the money.
Thank you |

International Part # 1840463C3 Don't know if it would save you anything.

Thanks again NYC
International does sell them with out the bolts. List price was $123. Problem is they don't stock them an the parts guy said he's never sold a set. Goes to show you that it's the extra stuff Ford puts on the motor that hurts it. After talking to the guy he dropped the price to $86 ea. almost half off. I wouldn't have them for a week an am going to bit the bullet so I can try an get them on this weekend. For the next guy. Plan ahead an order them with international an save $150 bucks. It's got me thinking everything else might be cheaper going that way. They make the motor an I'm sure Ford markes it up. Any input to this?? |

Of course Ford marks it up. They have to get theirs, right? You can't give stuff away and stay in business very long.
Ford didn't put anything extra in the engine that I know of (a few parts external to it). Those bolts are International and are on the VT365 (International version of this engine). You have to keep in mind that FORD tweaked this engine to get extra torque and horsepower numbers to keep their "Best in class" ad lines (gained through the electronic tuning). One could speculate that the head gaskets pop more frequently on the Ford version for this fact alone (added cylinder pressure due to tuning). |

they definitely do. don't forget the E-series 6.0 is detuned due to the confined engine bay and heat issues. From what I understand they experience far fewer headgasket failures than the F-series
Neither one is immune to a stuck turbo making 30psi however Interesting about the international headgasket, I may have to give them a call |

I got ya NYC:
The "extra stuff Ford puts on the motor" was meant externally as you had noted. I'm down with making a buck I own my own business but I'm also down with saving a buck. I wish I had known about the bolts being packaged in the Ford box and not in the International box. That's why I visit here. Have a great night |

I just learned the fact that International sells them without the bolts tonight as well, and only learned of the actual part number for them less than a day ago.
Work in progress for all... Rock On
