Question White Smoke and Cutting out

I have a 2005 F-250 6.0L. I think I have more than one problem and I hope someone can help me. 1st problem- anytime it gets below 40 degrees and the truck is not warm, it wont start unless i keep cranking the key. 2nd proble- once the truck does starts it runs really rough and pours white smoke. Truck has very little power until it is fully warmed up. Even after it is fully warmed up it will smoke when I pull away from a traffic light. Sometimes when I pull away from a light the truck will fall on its face and feels like it is flooded because it chokes for about 20-30 sec (lots of smoke) before it catches up and takes off. Do I have a bad turbo? Also sometimes when I am at 55mph and 1500rpm it will jerk/cut out and then run fine? Any ideas?

Check your EGR Valve. That will cause the cutting out and white smoke. I would also check for coolant in the hole after you remove the valve. It should be nice and dry in there. Not damp or sticky. Mine just blew an EGR Cooler and a sticking EGR Valve was the first symptom. Followed by a p0404 code.

Definitely sounds EGR related. Do a search on here and you'll find out all you want to about the EGR system.

My 2004 F350 6.0L does the very same thing and I had the fuel injectors scanned at the dealer and on top of the EGR valve needing replacement injector #4 wasn't working. Might not hurt to get the injectors tested cost me $150 at the dealer ..

egr

I did pull the egr valve and everything was covered with heavy black tar like material. Is there any good way to get in there and clean all that out?

Yes. Do a search for EGR Valve cleaning. If its tar/sticky it sounds like an EGR Cooler to me.
