Unhappy CEL EGR excessive flow

-Cleaned out EGR (First time in 71,000 miles, the thing was caked!)

-Broke loose as much gunk in the intake manifold that I could with a screwdriver and shop vac

-CEL comes back on within 10 miles of driving with same code.

-pulled it out and cleaned again

-This time I hear one loud click as if the EGR valve closed? Like it really was stuck open and flowing too much all the time. Sooo I thought I may have freed up the valve and it was working for about 25 miles, now back to the same CEL, EGR excessive flow.

Do I have a bad EGR Valve?

Owner at NAPA said he sells more EGR sending units or whatever the electronic part is...for $130, which is cheaper than buying the whole complete valve.

Any advice would be great! I have not had a problem out of this truck besides the FICM and do not really want to do an EGR delete.

If it is a bad valve any good prices out there? Money is tight as always

THANKS FELOW STROKERS!

Clear the CEL. If it comes back pull the valve and weld it shut

Welding it shut will still give codes with some engines. You will need a tuner to turn off the EGR system. When my EGR stuck open my engine ran like crap and also took out my turbo.

Ya need to either clean the valve really good or replace it. Iknow about short money but there is no simple fix with guaranteed results.
