6.0 fuel pump question

Im working on a 04 F-250 with 230 K miles. truck history as far as i know is ; problem started with occasional shut off and hard restart, owner thinks only happend when hot. upon frequency of problem escalating, truck was taken to his mechanic, then truck has not run since. this was over 2 years ago. my clues are old fuel pump and horizantal filter housing are in bed, secondary fuel filter was replaced, old one is present, and what i think is the fuel pressure regulator? all fuses and breakers seem fine. koeo does not produce fuel pump action, so secondary fuel filter is bone dry. tried old pump also still no go. checked wiring at fuel pump shut off , seems fine. I do not have a diagram to chase the current and do not know if command to start pump comes from key or pcm or ??? could use a little help thank you

This sounds like the classic sign of a high pressure oil system problem, and someone that has no clue working on the truck before you got it. You will have to start from the ground up on this one since it has been down so long. Start with fresh batteries and the NO START CHECK LIST IN MY SIGNATURE. Then move on to the t-shooing guide. I would also say you need to get a Scanguage2 for less than $150 this one tool will tell you a lot of info about your 6.0 and for sure it will save you its purchase price in frustration and unneeded parts. You will have to give us some more solid data to help you t-shoot this problem. Such as FICM voltage and ICP, IPR values and any trouble codes. I would suggest getting a Scanguage2 from Bullet Proof Diesel as it comes pre-programmed with the x-gauges for the 6.0. GOOD LUCK !

I have installed new battries and have followed this checklist down to fuel filter refill. no codes were set, but batteries were out of truck since they died years ago. fuel pump will not cycle with key switch. can this pump be jumper operated without causing problems? if so witch input wire is the hot side. I did not do the plugged line procedure yet because pump doesnt run as it is required to do. does fuel pump always cycle or only if pressure is low ? if only when low what switch activates it ? thank you.

Do you have voltage and ground at the fuel pump? What about the fuel pump relay?

Go to the link below and look at page 91 for a print on how the fuel pump is wired. hope this helps.
