So I am starting to do my rebuild on my 6.0. I got the heads back from the shop today, new gaskets, rings, rod bearings (the usual), new ARP studs, having a buddy of mine who is an electrical engineer resolder and fix my FICM. Haven't bought it yet but am planning on a new oil cooler and an EGR delete. Was wondering if there is anything else I should at least think about doing to it, had 123,000 mi on it.
Also can I re-use my rod cap bolts or do I need to buy new ones. The book I am using says throw them away, however the guy helping me with my rebuild (its my first larger motor rebuild) told me he hasn't heard of that before. I looked and I can only seem to find new rod cap bolts on ford's website, which would lend me to believe that guys reuse them, but as of right now I have $1800 tied up in this thing and with injectors am expecting to have about that again when I get finished up, I don't want to go all out and spend a fortune, would like to keep my costs around $3000 ideally.
