I have a 2003 with the 6.0 and it is going on 212K; it has been fairly reliable (new wiring harnesses, 2 oil coolers, 1 injector, miscellaneous sensors) and I keep the maintenance up on it myself using Ford Motorcraft oil and filters, Racal fuel filters, and an AFE air filter. For the past 5k or so I have noticed that cold or warm the engine lags horribly; sometimes even up to 3k RPM; it is like the turbo is closed; could my turbo be going out, or is it the VGT solenoid sticking or something worse? I can let off the accelerator and it does a hard shift into the next gear and then you can hear the turbo spool up once you press the accelerator again. I do not run it hard and I don't tow with it much anymore (less than a dozen times a year now); the only mods I have made is I blocked off the EGR cooler; put in an AFE air filter, and gutted the cat; been running those mods for the past 5 years with no issues. Any ideas?

I would bet there is your problem, these motors like to be run hard or the vanes will stick in the turbo. Any codes? Do you have gauges? If so what does your boost look like?
The only code I get is for the decreased airflow on the EGR Valve but that is due to me blocking it off. I never installed guages; to be quite honest I am not hard on it due to the EGR Cooler and especially the head gasket issues that are common.
Does anyone know where I could find instructions on this? I have pulled the turbo a few times but have never done anything with it. Thanks!
